We’re very proud to have been featured in Stylight magazine as one of the best yoga studios in Canada in PEI!

Q: What are the most popular or interesting classes that you offer?

A: Yoga On The Ball is by far my most requested class. The entire class is comprised of yoga postures done on an exercise ball, it’s my go-to whenever students arrive to class complaining of feeling stiff and sore all over. This popular class offers a full body practice and gorgeous yin-like restorative postures, all supported by the ball. The class also offers a level of accessibility and support for some of the more challenging postures like deeper backbends, which I really love! Essentially, we drape our bodies over the ball for each pose, using our breath, bodyweight and gravity to help melt deeper into the postures. It’s absolutely delicious!

Q: Is yoga a practice for all ages/fitness levels? Why?

A: I believe yoga is for everyone, every shape, every size, every age and every level of ability. I’m delighted to hear that yoga is being introduced to kids in kindergarten and elementary schools, the earlier the better! Yoga is far more than just a series of postures or asanas. Yoga provides practical tools like pranayama breath work that can be used both on and off the mat for stress reduction and overall well being. We live in a stressful fast-paced world, now more than ever its important for people to learn how to slow down, turn inward and find comfort in stillness. I really believe the mindfulness component of yoga is integral in maneuvering through our busy modern world.

Q: What’s the biggest misconception about yoga?

A: I think the biggest misconception about yoga is that you have to be skinny and able to bend like a gymnast in order to do it which is simply not true. I know this because I thought the very same thing before I took my yoga teacher training! I have discovered over the years through my experience teaching people of all different shapes and sizes that you don’t have to be flexible to do yoga, you do yoga to GET flexible. I strongly encourage first time yoga practitioners to search out classes specifically designed for beginners. Knowledgeable instructors experienced in teaching newbies know best how to modify postures to help beginners work at an appropriate pace and feel comfortable doing yoga for the first time.
